First Methodist Episcopal Church in Boston (first) is dedicated.

[5/14] The church is located at today’s 471 Hanover Street. The congregation is the first successful Methodist society in Boston (a short-lived congregation had been formed in 1772), it was formed on July 13, 1792. Rev. Jesse Lee (Jeremiah Cosden) is the first minister. The congregation moves to a new building (second) on North Bennet Street in 1828,* and then to the former Grace Church on Temple Street in 1873. The original building is subsequently used by the Seamen’s Bethel.
